Coal Fired Boiler Baghouse Sonic Horn Case Study

Coal Fired Boiler Baghouse Sonic Horn Case StudyMidwesco’s Acoustic Cleaners are high powered acoustic horns designed to prevent costly particulate build-up. Midwesco’s horns produce high energy, low frequency sound waves. This is accomplished by a sound generator causing a titanium diaphragm to vibrate. This vibration creates a series of sound waves. The sound waves enter the vessel resonating the particulate loose from the surfaces on which they have settled.

This southeastern sugar company has a eight module reverse air baghouse. They were experiencing high Delta P and the reverse air cleaning was inadequate to properly clean the filter bags. The company’s objective was to lower the Delta P across the baghouse and reduce the number of cleaning cycles needed to clean the filter bags.

Midwesco suggested utilizing sonic horns to break up the dry particulate and thus experience the full value of the reverse air cleaning. After installation of the four sonic horns, this sugar company was able to lower the Delta P from 7” w.g. to 4” w.g.; increase their hourly steam output by 30,000 lbs.; and reduced their cleaning cycles. All baghouse objectives were acomplished with the cost of the horns paying for themselves within one half day of service. This company is so delighted with the results that they are looking to remove some the existing sootblowers and install sonic horns for a more effective cleaning of their boiler tubes.

This is just another example of how partnering with Midwesco® has truly proven that we offer trust, value, quality and service to our customers.
