GO-CO® Nozzles Solve Premature Bag Failures PROBLEM: A Southern Food Producer operates coal and agricultural-waste stoker fired boiler with a two module, top entry baghouse. Customer was having to spot-change filter bags on a weekly basis. These erratic failures caused this customer to deal with visible emissions and unscheduled downtime in order to replace damaged filter bags. EVALUATION: Midwesco Filter and an independent lab evaluated used filter bags in order to determine cause and nature of the failures. Holes in the filter bags were isolated to the top portion of the filters. Both Midwesco and the independent lab concurred that failures where most likely to be related to pulse cleaning air problems. Midwesco provided the customer with Baghouse Layout Worksheets in order to track and plot failures. After two weeks of continued problems, the data was collected and compiled. Results indicated that in fact the same bags where being replaced most of the time. INVESTIGATION: Midwesco Filter, along with the customer, inspected the baghouse’s pulse cleaning system and blowpipes. It was determined by Midwesco that the original, ten year old, blowpipe holes had become dysfunctional and were the root-cause of the failures. However, instead of replacing the blowpipes, Midwesco Filter recommended that the blowpipes could be salvaged by modifying with Goyen’s GO-CO® nozzles. SOLUTION: Midwesco Filter provided the customer with this innovative product that is designed to maximize the accuracy of the pulse airflow delivery into the filter bag opening. With the GO-CO® nozzles the pulse air is regulated, straightened and accurately delivered to the filter bag, thus, optimizing baghouse cleaning and extend bag life. RESULTS: Six months after installation of the GO-CO® nozzles, the customer has not had a single filter bag failure for any reason, at all! Customer is pleased with the return on his investment. |
